  1. Can ELS do custom made equipment?

  2. Do I need a PSR?

    You need to have a PSR if you have new, modified or relocated equipment, or equipment which has been moved into a new workplace or where a safety control has been added or modified. This is a requirement of the Ontario Health and Safety Act Reg 851 section 7. Failure to comply with this law results in fines.

  3. What is the relationship between Mentor Dynequip Inc., Mentor Dynamics and Engineered Lifting Systems & Equipment Inc.?

    From 1971 till 1992 Mentor Dynamics Ltd. was the legal and operating name of the company and Mentor Dynalift was the brand name of our overhead cranes and related equipment. The company restructured in 1992 as a result of the economic slowdown and the legal name was changed to Mentor Dynequip Inc. The company changed to present ownership in 1998 and the legal name of the company was changed to Engineered Lifting Systems & Equipment Inc., however, it continued to operate as Mentor Dynamics to provide continuity to our customers. In 2008, in conjunction with the relocation to our new 38,000 square foot facility, we decided to raise the profile of the Engineered Lifting Systems & Equipment Inc. (ELS) name to better communicate what the business activity truly was to our new and expanding customer base. At the same time the Mentor brand name was assigned to all fabricated products made by ELS.

  4. What’s the different between Ton (short or US Ton) and Tonne?

    1 Ton = 2000 lbs and 1 Tonne = 1000 kg or 2200 lbs. (1 Tonne = 1.1 ton)

  3. What do I need to know to order replacement parts?

    Describe what the part is. What is the serial and model number of the part or system that it is attached to. When the part is difficult to describe or if the serial and model number is missing, please send a photo of the part.

  4. When is Customer Service available?

    From 8:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard time.

What to Consider when Ordering an Overhead Crane System

  1. Are there maintenance aspects of the crane to consider?

    If so, a catwalk on the crane may be required.

  2. Do you need the use of a second hoist on the bridge crane?

    This hoist may be used as an auxiliary hoist or be required in a process such as tilting/tipping.

  3. Is the support structure for the crane, existing?

    If yes, are there existing cranes on the runway? Then, consider the use of a collision avoidance or collision warning system.

  4. What about hoist weight?

    Hoist weight may be a factor in crane design (Our cranes have an assumed hoist weight and values exceeding these must be checked by our engineering department).

  5. What control system is desired?

    Options include radio control, free-floating pendent (festooning) or hoist-mounted pendent.

  6. What crane capacity is required?

    What will be lifted and how much does it weigh? Note, any below the hook devices should be added to the lifted load when determining capacities.

  7. What is the lift required by the hoist?

    The dimension from the floor or product to the maximum raised hook will need to be known. Do not forget to include any slings or below the hook devices that would influence this value.

  8. What is the required span?

    The span depends on the crane coverage width dictated by the application.

  9. What is the supply voltage/phasing/amperage?

    Assuming the crane requires power, this will need to be known. However, this may not be the case if the crane, trolley and hoist are all manual and/or air driven.

  10. What length of runway system is desired?

    This will depend on the application.

  11. What other accessories may be needed?

    Consideration may be given to accessories such as lights, warning horns, weigh scales, limit switches, etc.

  12. What speed does the crane and trolley need to have?

    Consider what the application and capacity would require. Determine if a "push/pull" would be sufficient? Note that hand geared is also available. Consider the option of dual speed or variable frequency drive.

  13. What style of crane, Under Runner or Top Runner, is required?

    A Top Runner runs on crane rails while an Under Runner runs on the bottom flange of a runway beam. The benefit of an Under Runner is apparent when the crane system is supported directly by the building roof (this must be verified) and NO runway columns are necessary.

  14. What will be the duty cycle of the crane?

  15. What will the operating environment be?

    If the environment has dust, paint fumes, or is outdoors, the crane design will need to accommodate these factors.
