Heavy Equipment Maintenance

The Problem: A company in the waste management industry required overhead lifting for their new service and maintenance facility where front end loaders and other heavy equipment required engines, container boxes, chassis, wheels and other component parts to be lifted.

Alternatives: An overhead bridge crane was the only option considered.

Product Chosen: A Mentor Single Girder Top Running bridge crane with a 5 tonne capacity mounted on a free standing runway structure was selected. The pre-engineered building was not designed to accommodate a crane system, therefore, a free standing runway structure was required. A Shaw-Box wire rope hoist provides the vertical lift.

Benefits & Features: The 45 ft runway with 30 ft bridge span, efficiently services the maintenance area. The design of the top running crane maximizes headroom and allows for a higher lift hook.

The end trucks have dual drive motors and were fitted with a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) to allow operators a controlled ramp up/down of bridge travel speed within the minimum and maximum speed settings.

An optional warning alarm was installed to alert workers in the service bay of crane and hoist motions.

Quote from End User: “The crane selected for our space and application turned out to be better than expected. The installation was smooth and completed without interruption to other activities. The use of the crane has resulted in improved safety in the workplace and a notable savings in time for mechanics as well as a reduction in down time for equipment.”
